Our July Zone Conferences were really fun! And we had great training on Chapter 8 in Preach My Gospel -Using Time Wisely. We focused on planning, which is not always the missionaries favorite thing to do. But the Assistants came up with a great idea and as we met and "planned" with them it evolved into a very special conference. President Lindsay is always encouraging the missionaries to "make it happen". Based on the idea from Elder Oaks, of always having your "line in the water" as a fisherman, the Assistants created a skit where two missionaries are "fishing". Here's how it played out.
First, they asked for volunteer fishermen. (Previously assigned!) Then they asked what was needed. A fishing pole? And they found two behind the curtain. A lake? They brought out the blow up swimming pool. Bait? They added some pass along cards from the missionaries to the end of the poles. Fish? They find two toy fish behind the curtain
Now a reporter comes to ask how the "fishing" is going. They respond with things like, "we're out here, hoping for something"..... "There's nothing happening in this area"
Then the drums begin to pound and in runs two spear fishermen who immediately get the fish!
(This was my favorite part!)
Then the reporter asks the spear fishermen how they did it, and the respond with we
MAKE IT HAPPEN! Which then lead to a discussion of how to make it happen in missionary work. And that is with PLANNING!
